Artist Statement
I never planned to be a watercolor painter. A largely self-taught artist, I began painting in oil as a hobby after early retirement from my job. Watercolor to me was a difficult and unforgiving medium. Then in 2006 I took a few watercolor classes at a community center, and I was hooked. I found that painting in watercolor allows me to create beauty out of ordinary objects using light and shadows. The fluid medium mixes in exciting and often surprising ways on the paper and lets me paint the fine details that I love to capture.
After a friend told me she wanted to stay awhile and visit one of my paintings, I realized that my goal as an artist is to stir emotion within and bring pleasure to those who view my work. The best compliment is when someone tells me one of my paintings made them smile. I hope you enjoy viewing my paintings as much as I enjoyed creating them and that you will want to "stay awhile and visit."
